Policy Planning

Survey Act (originally, Law No. 188, 1949) has been enforced to ensure efficiency and accuracy in surveys by setting rules and avoiding redundancy. GSI, as the competent authority of the Survey Act, lays out the basic rules of survey and seeks to improve the national survey system. At the same time we develop new technical specifications to be applied to new technologies, notably GPS and GIS. As a Secretariat member of the Earthquake Research Committee organized by the national government and the GIS Coordinating Committee among the Ministries and agencies we promote GIS and earthquake researches and provide various data of survey and mapping to the general public to meet emerging needs of the times for information and data sharing.
