Provision of data containing the signals of Galileo and the new frequency signal of GPS observed at 786 GNSS-based control stations started

The environment for highly precise space-based surveys has been enhanced

On April 1, Friday, the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) started providing data containing the signals of Galileo, EU's navigation satellite, and the new frequency signal of GPS, L5, observed at 786 GNSS-based control stations, on its website.

Use of Galileo's data in addition to the data of the navigation satellites that have already been provided (GPS, quasi-zenith satellite systems and GLONASS) increases locations where precise GNSS survey is possible even in city and mountainous areas where the signals from navigation satellites are prone to be blocked due to the obstacles such as buildings and mountains. Use of the GPS L5 signals makes it possible to reduce the time needed for surveying.
GSI is going to add the same function to the approximately 500 remaining GNSS-based control stations during about the next three years, for further expansion of provision of the signals of Galileo as well as the GPS L5 signals.
